Imagine starting your day with morning coffee within a panoramic, modern styled cottage. Gazing at the wildlife busily scurrying around outside in the trees and on the lake. Start your holiday within nature at Wolegib Muskoka.
About the Property
On a very private, windy road – at the very end you will find yourself at the Wolegib cottage. A very modern, waterfront, three-bedroom cottage located on the Muskoka River. In the Summertime, guests will have access to a canoe and two kayaks for their adventure needs. Whereas I stayed in the Winter and enjoyed the fresh snowfall as well as the reflections of the snowy trees off the water.
Inside the Wolegib Cottage
Kitchen
At first glance, the cottage doesn’t appear to be large, however, you will be quick to change your mind. Especially, when you walk into this open concept, pristine living space. Directly to the left is the gorgeous, white, stainless steel massive kitchen. Fully stocked with all your pots, pans and kitchen needs including dishwasher, microwave, kettle, toaster and fancy wine glasses. Because you know we need those!
Bed & Bath
There are three bedrooms upstairs just off the kitchen and living space. One is the master bedroom complete with en suite which, showcases a honeycomb backslash within the stand-up shower. Complete with passage to the deck just outdoor.
While on the other side of the hallway is a second bedroom with a queen-size bed and a lovely deer photo hanging above it. The bedroom in between has bunk beds and a view of the playground just out in the backyard. With this in mind, the kids won’t want to sleep in and want to get outside as soon as possible. Conveniently, there was an additional full bathroom on the main floor compensating for larger group gatherings.
Living Space
The living room is just that space that everyone likes to gather in. Wolegib makes it easy with the MASSIVE -almost U-shaped couch that guests will sink right into. Opposite of the couch is are these large windows providing spectacular views of the Muskoka River. The cottage comes with TV and WiFi those rainy, lazy days. Finally, the wood-burning stove in the corner ties the whole ”cabin in the woods” feel together.
Basement
Lastly, the basement. Not a space I spent much time in due to that fact we were out exploring for the majority of our stay. However, this would be a fantastic space for kids and guests who want to be entertained. The recreation room included a Ping pong table, a Foosball table and Air hockey table. Additionally, there is a bed found in the corner of the basement but, doesn’t seem to be used.
What to do
Downtown Huntsville
Usually, when you feel isolated in the trees you think there isn’t a whole lot to do nearby. Not in this case. Guests will be downtown within 15 minutes of leaving the cottage. Huntsville has lots of specialized shops to explore as well as yummy restaurants to dine at. We ended up at The Little Place by the lights because it was recommended by our hosts and was also, featured on the TV show You Gotta Eat Here. How was the food? AMAZING – if you like Italian this is the place for you!
Hiking Trails
Of course, I’m going to recommend some hiking trails for my fellow explorers. After all, we are in Muskoka! Arrowhead Provincial Park seems to be a popular Ontario Park to visit when exploring the area. Besides, it’s only a 20-minute drive from the cottage. Winter activities in the park include 34km of cross-country skiing trails, 6km of snowshoeing trails and 1.3km of ice skating through the forest. Hiking trails to check out include Stubbs Falls and Big Bend – both really easy to do and so, enjoyable in the winter months.
Bonus: Algonquin Provincial Park is another Ontario Park that is nearby. Be sure to check in with the visitors center to see what trails are open for the day. Ragged Falls is just outside the park and one of my favourite trails in Huntsville
Conclusion
In conclusion, the Wolegib cottage could be the perfect place to gather a group of friends or even the family at. Secluded and private but, still provides guests with the option to venture off property and explore the beauty of Muskoka. Would definitely recommend the space but, would be cautious in the Winter as vehicles get swallowed up by the steep hilly roads. Be sure to drive in with 4×4 and winter tires. Conditions up there are different than, what we are used to and guests need to be mindful of that. Hosts are lovely human beings and are available to answer any and all of your questions. The location is fabulous and I can’t write enough about how beautiful this property was.
If you are booking your stay please, do yourself a favour and don’t settle on just one night but, two. I find the first night you are still settling into space and I would hate for you not to utilize just how wonderful it is to disconnect and turn off the cell.
