Let me start by saying this park is FABULOUS for beginner hikers, families and friends with pets. Or for those inexperienced campers who want to try it out. Macgregor Point Provincial Park has all you need for a successful, entertaining and captivating weekend getaway.
Campgrounds
Beginning with Macgregor Point’s camping experience, no matter what site you choose, the spacious, tree-lined campsites throughout the park will thoroughly impress you. Unlike other campgrounds making guests feel like they’re camping on top of other campers.
Here’s a brief breakdown of the campgrounds and the location value of each one:
Nipissing Campground is the perfect location for those looking to spend time at the beach and is a short walk from most campgrounds. Nipissing is full non-electrical and is popular for tent and tent-trailer users. Personally, these are the sites I look for because they seem to be much quieter. Due to this, the washroom facilities are vault toilets and I’d recommend sanitary wipes. Please, pack them out – we have been seeing a high number of campers improperly disposing of their used tissue in our outdoor spaces.
Algonquin Campground (electric & non-electric sites) consisted of three loops in which each has a comfort station meaning showers, flushable toilets. One of the campground loops, Birch Boulevard, is open all year-round. During the winter season, electrical campsites and 16 yurts are available.
Huron Campground is the furthest from the Gate Office and has back-in campsites that are both non-electrical and electrical. Here there are vault toilets except for a comfort station near the main gate. Huron Campground is also radio free, making it a quieter experience.
Juniper Woods Group Campground expansion has been created for larger, organized groups. It contains two areas that can accommodate 36 people, although one group site is walk-in only. Also available is running water, vault toilets, a communal fire pit and picnic tables are available. Please, note there is no electricity in this part of the park.

Sunrise & Sunset Opportunities
Along the shoreline of Lake Huron is stunning for sunset views and Port Elgin has many access points to the beach. In this case, in particular, Macgregor Point will allow its visitors to hike to their sunset spot of their choosing. I would suggest hiking to Sunset Point within the park which, offers guests 360 views of the shorelines and captivating evening skies.
Recreational Activities
Surely, this is dependent on the time of year you visit the park. However, if you click through the website – you’ll be able to navigate through the park’s events and schedule. Nevertheless, hiking trails are great in any season as long as you are geared up properly for the cooler months. Opposite to the cooler months, the warmer months in the park host aerobic classes, yoga and even, choose a bike hike to peddle on.
Bonus: Hiking along the Tower Trail, visitors will find wetlands, a variety of bird species and a couple of wooden platforms for alternative views. 3.5km, circular trail
